Volunteer with Manna on Main Street
Manna on Main Street is a Your Way Home partner that works to end hunger in the North Penn region of Montgomery County. Manna will be distributing Thanksgiving holiday groceries on two days in November. On these days, Manna distributes special holiday specific groceries to Manna’s Market clients.
For the distribution on Weds, Nov 16, Manna needs 12 volunteers to serve 4:00-6:00pm and 13 volunteers to serve 5:45-8:00pm at Manna’s facility in North Penn Commons (606 East Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446). To sign up, email Meg at meg@mannaonmain.org with the Subject Line “Thanksgiving Volunteering” and which time slot you prefer. All volunteers must sign up with Meg ahead of time. Thank you!
Volunteer with the Jewish Relief Agency
The Jewish Relief Agency hosts Food Distributions monthly, where volunteers pack and deliver nutritious food to over 3,400 low-income households in the Greater Philadelphia area. Volunteers gather in our Northeast Philadelphia warehouse on Sunday Nov. 13th to pack boxes of food using our assembly-line style system.
JRA Juniors - 9am-10am: Reserved pacing hour for families with kids under 10! Families pack at a kid-friendly pace down our assembly-style lines, packing boxes of pantry staples, produce, and household supplies into boxes using carts. JRA Juniors creates a great atmosphere for the youngest volunteers in our community, welcoming children as young as a few months, all the way up to those transitioning into middle school.
All Ages Packing - 10am-11:30am: Volunteers carry boxes down the line, while other volunteers place food and other items into the box. Make it to the end, grab another box, and do it again! This process repeats until all food boxes are packed and ready to be distributed. This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, groups of friends, or large volunteer groups!
Food Delivery - 9am-2pm: Volunteers hand-deliver boxes of nutritious kosher food and household items directly to the homes of individuals and families struggling with food insecurity. Volunteers can select a delivery route (or routes!) in advance in a number of different neighborhoods. JRA serves individuals in 90 zip codes throughout Greater Philadelphia. Delivery routes have as few as 1 stop or as many as 15 or 16 stops with an average of around 7 stops. Pick-ups any time between 9am and 2pm.
Weekday opportunities available: Packing on Thursday Nov. 10 and Friday Nov. 11, delivery on Monday Nov. 14 and Tuesday Nov. 15.
