Ms. G’s story began in the winter when she left an abusive relationship and had to live in her car. She eventually called the Your Way Home Call Center, entered shelter and received an appointment at the Norristown Housing Resource Center. While working two home health aide jobs, she looked at several apartment units, often following-up on leads from Ann Garcia, Housing Locator. Ms. Garcia eventually found Ms. G an affordable efficiency apartment in Norristown and she moved into the unit in March. Ms. G now works for just one home health agency and has increased her income, while saving some money. After six months of assistance from Your Way Home, she will be paying her full rent in November. As she prepares to exit from Your Way Home, she will be meeting with a Clarifi financial counselor to review her income, expenses and savings plan to ensure her stability.

After a short time in emergency shelter, Anna successfully moved into her new apartment. She told her landlord, “Your Way Home has been a true blessing. I had no idea the program could help me get into my new apartment. The support has been tremendous and I am glad as a landlord you worked with them to make it possible to rent this apartment”. As Anna moved furniture into her apartment she commented, “most people wouldn’t think a program like this exists and it has really helped shape a better reality and get me one step closer to my dreams”.

After staying at the Salvation Army in Norristown, this family of four now has an apartment to call their own! Recently Carolyn, Maurice, M.J. and Lanya moved into an apartment and wanted to thank all those that helped. Carolyn expressed, "For doing all they could to make it possible for us to get us where we are today, we appreciate the help of Stephanie and John from Your Way Home. Working together with Joel at the Salvation Army they all made it possible to keep our family together.”

Paul and Alice along with a longtime friend Carol, take a moment after signing their apartment lease to enjoy the weather.

In November 2015 Paul and Alice were found sleeping in their car at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Willow Grove and confirmed homeless by the Street Outreach Team. The North Penn Area Housing Resource Center began working with the couple to develop a housing plan. Paul and Alice were in and out of motels and eventually entered shelter.  Numerous staff and partner organizations assisted this couple with their goal of housing.  The North Penn Area Housing Locator was able to help secure housing for them through a landlord that has been supportive of the Your Way Home program. On Monday, April 11, 2016 they signed a lease agreement for a one bedroom apartment in Lansdale.

Brian Spangler is a Montgomery County resident who became homeless in 2014. Brian became a Your Way Home rapid re-housing client working with thePottstown Housing Resource Center (HRC).  He was able to quickly obtain housing with the assistance of the HRC staff and found employment with Techo-Bloc.  Brian lived in a small efficiency for close to a year.  He wisely saved money and is now living with a rental housemate in a large two bedroom apartment in Pottstown, paying his own rent with no subsidy.    Brian continues to stop in often to chat and is grateful for the assistance of the HRC staff and the ongoing support from the Pottstown Cluster Religious Communities.
